Kit Features
Showing off some of our specially-sourced Kit favorites, each with its own story.
Sisal Basket
Handmade in Rwanda, baskets are woven using Sisal – a type of agave plant that produces long, hardy leaves. When stripped, strong sisal threads are created. The thread is rinsed and processed into a natural color state (or with a natural dye) and tightly coiled around bundles of sweetgrass as intricate patterns are woven in – each taking several days to complete. Baskets are traditionally gifted on special occasions as a symbol of friendship, family, and life.
Sisal Weavers
Made by a team of 35 women, the Ituze group in Muhanga, Rwanda has hundreds of years of experience, collectively – and some women have been weaving for over 30 years. They masterfully weave by hand using the natural resources they’ve gathered from the land and provide as the main source of income for their children and family. The group is one of six women-led co-ops across Africa that is supported by our artisan partner. Each co-op is provided with skills training, market access, fair pay, and a path for economic independence.
Arrange Away
Each basket comes with a ready-to-hang loop so you can quickly and easily display this beautiful arrangement. But don’t let that stop you from designing your own masterpiece. While ideal for larger open wall spaces like in a hallway, office, dining, living or bedroom, this can also be split into several mini displays to accommodate a variety of spaces. Hang a couple in the bathroom, display a trio on a slimmer wall, place a few on your TV console or stow one on your nightstand…just to name a few. Trust us, your walls will thank you. Or your other nooks and crannies will.
